Forty Years of Priestly Service

You have traveled half-way around the world from your native country of India, one of the world’s most populous countries, to serve us here in our tiny neighborhood of Oakville, Connecticut.  What an adventure!

Although you have been with us for only five months, we have benefited from your deep faith and compassionate spirit.  Thank you for leading us in worship, deepening our understanding of the Word of God, and walking with us through this stressful time of the pandemic.  Thank you for being our parish priest!

Ad Multos Annos!

The disturbing violence on the Capitol steps and under the Rotunda, that ensued a protest rally, must not determine our destiny or define our character as a free country that is governed by just laws and the rule of order. The world looks to our country as the model of civility when it comes to transfer of governance. Our founding fathers gave us the gift of the Constitution that has always facilitated this peaceful transfer. We must protect the integrity of our democracy that allows for dissent and differing opinions expressed by persuasive words and debate, not by violence. In the end the rule of just laws must determine our civil destiny. In this time of strife we must appeal to God for His wisdom and to seek His Will. We seek the intercession of the patron saint of our country, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, to pray for our common cause and help us see the Will of God even through the murky waters of turbulence. Let us pray for justice and peace for all.

Dear Faith Formation Families
I am excited to announce that we have a new Faith Formation Coordinator at St Mary Magdalen Parish. Gintare Lopez joined us last week. Gintare resides in Cheshire and comes to us via New York and Lithuania. Gintare has experience in both missionary work internationally and in youth ministry in New York.

In the next few weeks Gintare will be familiarizing herself with our faith formation program and developing creative ways to stay in contact with our students while we are in a remote status. When schools open up again we hope to bring our faith formation students back to in–person classes. In the meantime Gintare will be reaching out to families to follow up on progress made with the home-based program.

Gintare will be working closely with our catechists, our faith formation secretary, Johanna Dubauskas, and our parish staff and clergy. Please join me in welcoming Gintare to our parish. She can be reached at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
I pray you are having a safe and peaceful Advent.

Sincerely in Christ
Fr Anthony J. Smith
